Teton Park Road Part 1
The Teton Park Road runs to the west from this highway and provides closer access to the Teton Range and Jenny Lake. We cover this road in two sections. Part 1 runs from Moose Junction to South Jenny Lake Junction. It is covered below. For Part 2, from South Jenny Lake Junction to Jackson Lake Junction, see Teton Park Road Part 2.
Mile 0 – Moose Junction
The Teton Park Road begins at Moose Junction, where it intersects US Highway 89.
Mile 0.5 – Craig Thomas Visitor Center
The Craig Thomas Discovery and Visitor Center. This brand new facility replaced the old Moose Visitor Center and is a state of the art building well worth a visit.
Mile 0.6 – Moose-Wilson Road
The Moose-Wilson Road heads off to the left. This highly scenic route follows along the Snake River and becomes unpaved for a time before leaving the park. Phelps Lake and the Granite Canyon Trailhead are two major destinations of this road. The road is closed in winter and is always closed to trailers, RVs, and other large vehicles.
Mile 0.9 – Moose Entrance Station
The road passes through the Moose Entrance Station. The park entrance fee must be paid or a valid pass shown.
Mile 2.2 – Windy Point Turnout
The road passes by the Windy Point Turnout on the right. This viewpoint gives you a southern angle of the Grand Teton itself.
Mile 3.4 – Taggart Lake Trailhead
The parking area for the Taggart Lake Trailhead is on the left. This easy 4 mile loop trail gives access to Taggart Lake and is quite popular.
Mile 3.8 – Cottonwood Creek Picnic Area
The Cottonwood Creek Picnic Area is on the right.
Mile 5.0 – Teton Glacier Turnout
The Teton Glacier Turnout is on the left. This viewpoint gives a nice but distant view of a small glacier on the Teton Range.
Mile 7.2 – Lupine Meadows
A short, mostly unpaved road to the left leads through Lupine Meadows and to a trailhead.
Mile 7.9 – South Jenny Lake Junction
The road arrives at South Jenny Lake Junction. To the left is the main developed area for the lake, which includes the Jenny Lake Visitor Center as well as the boat dock where the insanely popular trips across the lake to Hidden Falls originate. Jenny Lake Campground, by far the most popular in the park, is also in the area. It is shown to the left.
