Kings Canyon Scenic Drive (Part 1)

The Kings Canyon Scenic Drive (CA-180) runs from the Big Stump Entrance of Kings Canyon to its end at an area appropriately known as Road’s End. We cover this road in three sections. Part 1 runs from the Big Stump Entrance to the national forest boundary. It is covered below. Mile 0 – Park Entrance

CA-180 passes by the entrance sign welcoming you to Kings Canyon National Park and takes on the name Kings Canyon Scenic Drive.

Mile 1.8 – Generals Highway

The Generals Highway heads off to the right. This road passes through Sequoia National Forest on its way to Sequoia National Park.

Mile 3.0 – Wilsonia

On the right is Wilsonia, a private community within the park. There are no visitor services on this road.

Mile 3.1 – Sunset Campground

Mile 3.3 – Grant Village area

The road approaches the Grant Grove area. The Kings Canyon Visitor Center and Grant Village Lodging are located here.

Mile 3.5 – Campgrounds & Grant Grove

Roads go to both the left and the right here. To the left is the Azalea Campground, the Columbine Picnic Area, and access to the General Grant Tree and General Grant Loop Trail. To the right is the Crystal Springs Campground.

Mile 4.6 – Sequoia National Forest

The road leaves Kings Canyon National Park and enters Sequoia National Forest.
