Campgrounds of Hawaii Volcanoes

Camping is not a particularly common way of visiting Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, probably due to the vast majority of visitors arriving by air. However, there are two small camping areas in the park for those who have the equipment.

Kulanaokuaiki Campground

  • Size & Cost: 9 sites, $10 per site
  • Open: All Year
  • Reservations: No, first come, first served
  • Location: 5 miles down Hilina Pali Road off Chain of Craters Road
  • Amenities: Vault toilets, grills and picnic tables – there is no fresh water

Namakanipaio Campground

  • Size & Cost: 16 sites, $15 per site
  • Open: All Year
  • Reservations: Privately managed, Reserve Online
  • Location: Along HI-11 outside the main entrance
  • Amenities: Running water, flush toilets, grills and picnic tables
