The Elwha Road, also known as Olympic Hot Springs Road, enters the park off of US-101 along the Elwha River. It should be noted that everything listed past the Altair Campground below is subject to change and may not be accessible, as the dam removal project on the Elwha River continue above this point.
Mile 0.0 – Park Entrance
Two miles south of US-101, the entrance sign welcomes you to the Elwha Valley area of Olympic National Park. Just past here, the road passes through the entrance station. The park entrance fee must be paid or a valid pass shown.
Mile 0.1 – Madison Creek Falls
Immediately beyond the entrance station is a small parking area. A very short paved trail leads from here to Madison Creek Falls, a tall and narrow waterfall. For more information, see Olympic Hiking Trails.
Mile 1.1 – Elwha Campground
The road passes by the entrance to the Elwha Campground on the left. See Olympic Camping for more information.
Mile 1.9 – Elwha Ranger Station
The road goes by the Elwha Ranger Station.
Mile 2.0 – Whiskey Bend Road
The unpaved Whiskey Bend Road is on the left. This rough road leads to the Whiskey Bend Trailhead. It is subject to closures.
Mile 2.4 – Altair Campground
The road passes by the Altair Campground on the right. See Olympic Camping for more information.
Mile 6.7 – Happy Lake Ridge Trailhead
The parking area for the Happy Lake Ridge Trail is on the right.
Mile 8.2 – Appleton Pass Trailhead
The road ends at the parking area for the Appleton Pass Trail.
