The Roads of Zion

The main road east and west through the park is UT-9, which is known as the Zion-Mt. Carmel Highway within the park. It links the south entrance in Springdale with the east entrance. The Zion Canyon Scenic Drive is off of UT-9. From March through October, this road is closed to private vehicles. Instead, visitors must ride the superbly set up Zion Canyon Shuttle System. These propane powered vehicles run as often as 6 minutes apart during the busy season, and eliminate the noise, pollution, and crowding at the parking areas. The Kolob Terrace Road leads off of UT-9 in the town of Virgin to the high country of the Kolob Terrace. Further west, the Kolob Canyons Road is accessed off of I-15 at Exit 40.
