Norris Geyser Basin - Porcelain Basin

Norris Geyser Basin is a large area of thermal features. It is located at Norris Junction. This area is one of the hottest and most unstable in the park. Temperatures in many of its features tops the boiling point. It lies at the intersection of three fault lines, making it a very active seismic area. New features appear almost every year here, while others disappear or become inactive. Porcelain Basin is a section of Norris that pulsates with steam and hot water. Four of its key features are described below.


Basin Geyser in Yellowstone National Park
Basin Geyser that has been reduced to a boiling pool. The area has been quiet long enough for wildflowers to grow around it.
Colloidal Pool in Yellowstone National Park
Colloidal Pool is an interesting double pool spring. Its bluish waters are usually murky.
Hurricane Vent in Yellowstone National Park
Hurricane Vent is sometimes a dry steam vent and sometimes a pool of murky blue water in a deep basin.
Ledge Geyser in Yellowstone National Park
Ledge Geyser occasionally erupts to heights of 80 feet. It is more likely to be seen spouting low amounts of water from one or more of its many vents.
