Getting to Hawaii Volcanoes
Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is reached from Hilo via HI-11, a drive of about 45 minutes. The park is a little over two hours from the Kona Airport.
Kona International Airport (KOA) is the nearest airport with major airline service and car rental. Extensive service to the mainland US is available here, as well as "island hopper" flights to other Hawaiian Islands. There is an airport in Hilo (ITO) as well, though it offers only "island hopper" service, with few excpetions. We suggest using Travelocity when searching for your flights and rental cars. Use the suggested airport codes above for the fastest results.
