About Canyonlands Weather
Canyonlands National Park is located on the Colorado Plateau. It is a high desert climate with large temperature changes, up to 50°F in a single day. The temperate seasons of spring and fall are rather brief, occupying parts of April, May, September, and October. Summer temperatures often exceed 100°F, making outdoor activity difficult, particularly in Canyonlands where there is little if any shade. The monsoon season, in late summer, brings violent but brief thunderstorms which often cause flash floods. Winters are cool, with infrequent snowfall, but even small amounts of snow or ice can make park trails and roads impassable. The Island in the Sky District is typically considerably cooler than the Needles District due to elevation differences.
Visitation Seasons

The spring is a generally pleasant time to visit. Temperatures are mild and visitation is low. Things start to warm up considerably late in the season.

The summer is the most common time to visit. Temperaturs in the Island in the Sky district are quite warm, but the Needles District can get very hot. Things are dry except for occasional thunderstorms, more common later in the season.

The fall is probably the best time for a vist to either district. Temperatures are pleasant and crowds are light. Things get cool later in the season, and Island in the Sky can be cold at times.

The winter is a time of very low visitation and cool temperatures. Island in the Sky can get quite cold, with light snows possible. The Needles District stays a bit warmer due to its lower elevation.
